Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the features of spatial distribution indicators of socio-economic development, characterizing the natural-resource, economic and labor potential of the Far Eastern Federal District. Its specificity in comparison with other regions of the Russian Federation lies in the fact that occupying a large territory of the country, having a huge naturalresource, industrial, export and recreational potential, the availability of large untapped areas suitable for living and locating large production complexes and developing agriculture, advantageous geographical position, it is at one of the last places according to the levels of economic development and life of the population. The main reason is the existing disproportion between the huge resource potential and sparsely populated areas, poorly developed infrastructure (primarily transport and social) and manufacturing industries.

The design of the spatial data base for mapping and research of indicators of social and economic development of the Far Eastern Federal District included the rationale for selecting the target software; selection and characterization of the initial data; selection of the mathematical basis and setting the parameters of the map projection in the GIS; determination of the purpose and composition of attributive data of spatial objects, the initial data for mapping the main indicators of social and economic development have selected and their quality assessed; a set of spatial information of GIS databases for the purposes of geoinformation mapping; the composition and character of the localization of the layers of the geographical basis of the maps have been determined.

The elements of the content and parameters of the decor of a series of maps of social and economic development of the Far Eastern Federal District have been designed, which, using geoinformation mapping technologies, has created maps such as “Administrative-territorial division”, “Population”, “Transport”, “Agriculture”, “Investments” and “Quality of life of the population”.
