Abstract

Development of Internet technologies makes it possible to provide access to library collections for remote users. The paper considers one of the ways to exhibit map collection to the users. In 2011, the Map Department of the Russian State Library started the development of an electronic resource that would contain cartographic items available in Library’s map collection. The new service aims to provide free access to full bibliographic descriptions, an advanced search for maps and atlases and an opportunity to receive electronic copies of maps. The paper will present main working principles of this retrieval service and improvements of map bibliography descriptions.
